Metaverse Coordination

Noting the importance of information technology to the topic of Metaverse and the complexity of that work across multiple committees and technologies, JTC 1 created an Advisory Group (AG 23) on Metaverse Coordination.

Terms of Reference:

  1. Encourage collaboration and coordinate activities within JTC 1, related to metaverse and other types of virtual worlds, e.g. citiverse;
  2. Review all relevant PWIs and NPs across all JTC 1 subgroups prior to decision/ballot and approved projects across all JTC 1 subgroups to ensure agreement by JTC 1/SC and JTC 1/WG leaders on appropriate allocation of projects;
  3. Lead JTC 1 coordination activities within Systems Committee on metaverse;
  4. Collaborate with other ISO and IEC groups, and external groups including ITU-T, Metaverse Standards Forum (MSF);
  5. Develop and maintain a strategic plan of direction covering aspects of metaverse and other types of virtual worlds and technology levels, setting out a roadmap for standardization in JTC 1, including: monitoring and reviewing the opportunities and potential projects within the domain to address gaps and stakeholder needs;
  6. Advise JTC 1 on actions to be taken to maximize success for JTC 1 in this domain;
  7. Provide reports to each JTC 1 Plenary meeting.

Duration: Through the November 2027 JTC 1 Plenary.

Membership is open to:

  1. One assigned and empowered leader from each JTC 1/SC or JTC 1/WG with relevant interest in metaverse and one alternate;
  2. Experts nominated by National Bodies, JTC 1/SCs and JTC 1/WGs;
  3. Invited experts, presenting work items to be considered and coordinated;
  4. Representatives of ITTF.
