Introduction
ISO/IEC JTC 1/SWG 5 Internet of Things (IoT) is a special working group (SWG) of the Joint Technical Committee, ISO/IEC JTC 1 of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which develops and facilitates the development of standards for Internet of Things (IoT). ISO/IEC JTC 1/SWG 5 was established in 2012 at the 27th plenary meeting of ISO/IEC JTC 1 in Jeju, Republic of Korea, as a result of growing interest in the field of IoT by other standards organizations. The international secretariat of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SWG 5 is the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), located in the Republic of Korea.

The purpose of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SWG 5 is not to develop or publish IoT related standards, but to coordinate with ISO/IEC JTC 1 subcommittees, working groups, and special working groups and with other standards organizations to help better identify and convey the needs and gaps in the IoT world.
