ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 38, is the globally recognized developer of international standards for cloud computing and distributed platforms. SC 38 is at the forefront of developing new Cloud Computing standards that are needed to support industries’ digital transformation and address the needs of consumers, customers, governments, regulators, auditors, providers, brokers, and advocacy groups.
SC 38’s standards define technologies that form the foundation for Cloud Computing. These standards include topics such as foundational concepts and technologies, operational issues, data-related issues, and interactions among Cloud Computing systems, and with other distributed systems. SC 38 serves as the focus, proponent, and systems integration entity on Cloud Computing, Distributed Platforms, and the application of these technologies. SC 38 provides guidance to JTC 1, IEC, ISO and other entities developing standards in these areas.

Benefits
Promises of lower cost, higher throughput, and wider availability are all predicated on the assumption that computing clouds need not be unconnected technology islands. Standards and guidelines will specify interoperability and portability mechanisms to connect otherwise isolated processing clouds, resulting in faster deployment of end-user solutions such as eGovernment and eHealth, as well as serving those customers in private sector organizations.
Because standards for distributed application platforms and services are of particular interest to governments as well as private sector organizations, the probability of adoption is greatly increased by developing needed standards under the auspices of ISO/ IEC JTC 1, whose international imprimatur is widely recognized and accepted.
