IT Service Management and IT Governance

JTC 1/SC 40 was created at the 28th JTC 1 Plenary meeting in Perros-Guirec, France, on 4-9 November 2013 outlined in Resolution 21. Standards Australia (Australia) holds the Secretariat and the Chair position. The setting up of SC 40 involved the disbanding of the JTC 1/ WG 8, SC 7/WG 25 and the SC 7/WG 27 groups from 1 December 2013, and transitioning the work of those entities to, and under the scope of SC 40.

The scope is as follows:

Standardization in:

  • Governance of IT
  • Governance of data
  • IT service management
  • IT enabled services – business process outsourcing

Serving as the focal point in these areas, SC 40 communities, co-operates and collaborates with relevant committees (such as cybersecurity and privacy), external bodies and other stakeholders on topics of mutual interest.

The inaugural plenary meeting was held in Sydney, 10-13 June 2014. Present were 15 P-members, 2 O-members and a liaison organization ISACA. The current SC 40 membership is 36 P-members and 26 O-members with 5 external liaisons – itSMFI, ISACA, OASIS, EC and IAF.

Since SC 40’s inception, there have been eleven plenary meetings (Sydney, Australia 10-13 June 2014, Sao Paulo, Brazil 18-22 May 2015, Suzhou China 16-20 May 2016, Okayama, Japan 29 May – 2 June 2017, Lisbon, Portugal 4 June – 8 June, 2018,  Paris, France 3 June – 7 June, 2019,  Virtual plenaries in 2020, 2021 and 2022 – (18 and 27 August 2020, 8 and 24 June 2021 and 13 and 22 June 2022), London, UK 5 – 9 June 2023, and Campinas, Brazil 17-21 June 2024. 

Eight business plans have been prepared and presented to JTC 1.The work is progressed under 3 Working Groups – WG 1 Governance of Information Technology, WG 2 Service Management – Information Technology, WG 3 IT-enabled services/Business process outsourcing of which there are terms of references for each WG.The Chairman Advisory Group assists in accomplishing goals and objectives.
