Committee Manager’s report

JTC 1 NXXXXX

Events

• Authorization was given for hosting of a JTC 1 Foresight Workshop in January 2026, focused on identifying emerging technology trends and standardization opportunities.

• Publication of Technology Trend Reports (TTRs): JTC 1 finalized and resolved to publish three major TTRs on:

  • Intelligent Uncrewed Systems
  • Neuromorphic Computing Systems
  • CitiVerse

These reports will be refined and made publicly available, supporting external engagement and transparency.

• Metaverse and CitiVerse Coordination: The JTC 1 Strategic Coordination Group on Metaverse (SCG 2) broadened its scope to include CitiVerse and external environments, aiming for deeper collaboration across ISO, IEC, and external partners to map JTC 1’s role in this rapidly evolving domain.

• JTC 1/WG 11 continues strong collaboration with ISO/TC 268 and IEC SyC Smart Cities, advancing standards on smart city engineering frameworks and ontologies for city indicators.

• JTC 1 authorizes the JTC 1 Chair and Committee Manager to schedule a workshop on potential future work to support Intelligent Uncrewed Systems (IUS). The purpose of the workshop is to share information about JTC 1’s initial analysis of IUS and to solicit feedback that informs plans for further JTC 1 activity in this area.

• JTC 1 established JTC 1 Ad Hoc Group 11 (JTC 1/AhG 11) on Neuromorphic Computing Systems to further analyze the content in the TTR on Neuromorphic Computing Systems (JTC 1 N17792) and to develop recommendations and a final report for May 2026 JTC 1 Plenary meeting.

• JTC 1 approved the initiation of the revision and project splits (in 22 parts) for ISO/IEC 2382, Information technology – Vocabulary.

• JTC 1/SC 43 is asked to provide an update to the May 2026 JTC 1 Plenary on progress being made within JTC 1/SC 43/AhG 10 to recommend updates to its scope.

• Ms. Laura Lindsay was appointed as JTC 1 Chair-elect for 2026 and as Chair for 2027–2029 (pending approval by ISO/TMB and IEC/SMB).
