JTC 1 Plenary 51

• Initiation of 2026 JTC 1 Survey for Future Work: JTC 1 has instructed the Committee Manager to initiate an online survey targeting all JTC 1 entities and National Bodies to investigate future standardization opportunities. The survey will run from June 29, 2026, to August 21, 2026.
• Resource Efficient Software: The topic of resource-efficient software from the ISO open-consultation has been assigned to SC 39. SC 39 plans to initiate work on a Technical Report in collaboration with experts from SC 7 and SC 42.
• Metaverse Coordination (AG 23): Strategic Coordination Group 2 (SCG 2) has been reconstituted as Advisory Group 23 (AG 23) on Metaverse Coordination. Led by Chair-elect Laura Lindsay, AG 23 will lead coordination activities and develop a strategic roadmap for metaverse and virtual worlds, including CitiVerse.
• Neuromorphic Computing Systems (AhG 11): AhG 11 was reconstituted to further analyze the Technology Trend Report (TTR) on Neuromorphic Computing Systems (JTC 1 N17792) and identify potential areas for new standardization work.

• Horizontal Function (AhG 12): A new Ad Hoc Group (AhG 12) was established to develop a justification for a process to identify committees that serve a “Horizontal Function,” similar to the IEC process.
• OSD (Online Standards Development) Feedback (AhG 10): AhG 10 was reconstituted to continue documenting best practices and develop feature requests for the OSD platform.
• Disbandment of SCG 1 (Data Management and Data Governance): Following the end of its pilot phase, JTC 1 disbanded the Strategic Coordination Group on Data Management and Data Governance (SCG 1).
• 3D Printing and Scanning (WG 12): JTC 1 issued a call for contributions regarding the standards ecosystem and quality model for 3D/4D scanning and printing.

• Makoto Murata: Appointed as SC 34 Chair-elect (2026) and Chair
  (2027–2029)
• Laura Lindsay: Appointed as Convenor for AG 23 (Metaverse Coordination) and AhG 12 (Horizontal Function)
