Calendar:

Initially ISO/IEC JTC 1 operated on an approximately 18 month cycle between meetings. This was quickly found to be inadequate, and JTC 1 moved to a 9 month cycle. However, this cycle was found to be extremely disruptive for the subcommittees as most of them were operating on 12 month or 6 month cycles, and avoiding collisions with the JTC 1 Plenary became something of a lottery. In reality, it meant that at least one subcommittee’s plenary coincided with JTC 1’s. Thus in 1999 JTC 1 decided to move to 12 month cycle with its plenary falling in the months of October or November. In 2019, JTC 1 decided to move to 6 month cycle with its plenary falling in the months of May-June or October-November.
